ARIES

Planet: Mars Element: Fire

The Zodiac year begins with the sign of Aries, this is because pre-Roman calendars began at the Spring Equinox.

Ariens generally, are eager for new experiences, often pioneers in their field, or opening up new ones.

Aries loves adventure and will exhibit great courage and leadership when necessary, this can sometimes give them a tendency to overpower those around them.

Their signature essential oil is Rosemary (don’t use if you have high blood pressure) and is warming, stimulating with an incisive, direct aroma like the Arien.

This blend includes Black Pepper linked to Aries fiery planet Mars. It is warming and able to restore some of Aries innate energy.

TAURUS

TAURUS:

Planet: Venus Element: Earth

Taureans have a very shrewd appreciation of assets and values, both material belongings and intangible assets such as talents and abilities, but they also love

the fleshy pleasures of food, wine and sex! So it’s no surprise that Venus, the Goddess of Love is the ruling planet. Taureans are often very talented people with

a keen aesthetic sense of liking fine clothes, comfort, tasteful surroundings and are often in professions such as fashion, interior design or the arts.

They have a deep love of the Earth which may take the form of concern for the environment and have the patience, determination and tenacity to stick to a task or project.

In this blend I’ve used Palmarose essential oil, as Taurus’s signature oil is Rose but is ridiculously expensive to use. I’ve matched it with Violet which links with the ruling planet Venus as an oil of love and the Heart Chakra.

GEMINI

Planet: Mercury Element: Air

Gemini has obvious affinities with Mercury, the planet of communication and understanding and Gemini’s have very lively minds, quick, versatile, enquiring, sociable, chatty and often

brilliant speakers or writers. They have a great deal of charm and can be flirtatious, but in an innocent way. Their natural curiosity may lead them to flit from one interest to another,

change careers, homes or marriage partners. They may experience mental stress from trying to keep too many ‘balls in the air’, and these stresses will usually manifest physically.

The Gemini mind finds it hard to ‘switch off’ and relax and may become great worriers. Here we see the dual – twin personality, of being an outgoing and full of fun, but in private maybe struggling with issues of the mind. Gemini’s signature essential oil is Basil which is a tonic for the mind as it is grounding, but at the same time balances subconscious thoughts and conscious reactions. The fragrance of harmony. The essential oil linked to Mercury is Lavender, perfect as it is calming, soothing and balancing, and works on all levels of the body.

CANCER

Planet: Moon Element: Water

Cancerian’s are often deeply emotional people as their ruling planet is the Moon and their Element is Water, which both link to the emotions. They may not find it easy to express their feelings, hiding inside their ‘shell’ like a Crab which is their astrological sign. This shell is vital for the Cancerian’s emotional well-being, separating them from the overwhelming emotions outside.

Therefore, Cancerian’s homes are important to them as it is a place they feel safe and where family belongs. They need to nurture, and will express love via food; and have a great tendency to show affection in this way. Emotionally, the Cancerian may be liable to strong mood swings. The Signature essential oil for Cancer is Chamomile reflecting the nurturing ‘Mother’ vibrations.

It is soothing, calming and gentle enough to be used on infants and appropriate for so many people troubled by their childhood. The other oils that link in with the Moon for Cancer are Lemon and Lime as they are cold and moist, but equally being citrus, they are uplifting.

LEO

Planet: Sun Element: Fire

Leo just loves to bask in other people’s attention, to be centre stage, harly surprising it’s ruling planet is the Sun, the centre of our solar system. It is the sign of leaders, performers, actors, musicians, dancers and TV, film and music celebrities, as Leo’s are drawn to creative professions where they have everyone’s attention. Leo people suffer if they have their creativity blocked and do need to take time out for hobbies, leisure pursuits and recreation. Denied this they can suffer from depression, and they will want to talk about and tell you their woes.

The signature oil for Leo is Jasmine, which is known as the King of Oils. I’ve teamed this with Orange and Cinnamon as they both relate to the Sun, & give upliftment.

VIRGO

Planets: Mercury/Chiron Element: Earth

Virgo is the sign of service and work and often described as the sign most concerned with health and healing. Many Virgoans are drawn to caring professions, such as nurses,

care assistants, therapists etc. They want to take care of you and have a deep need to feel they are doing something useful and worthwhile. Virgo’s also have keen minds and shows itself in precision and attention to detail. They tend to be highly organised, though taken to extremes this ability can become nit-picking, critical or even obsessional.

Virgo’s tend to put their needs second and will carry on even when exhausted. Consequently, they can become depleted physically, mentally and emotionally.

The signature oil for Virgo is Lavender, calming, soothing and balancing to help these busy people relax. The oils linked to Mercury, their ruling planet, are Fennel and Thyme.

LIBRA

Planet: Venus Element: Air

Libra’s symbol of a pair of scales represent justice, fairness and balance and these are very important to Librans. They will look at both sides of the argument, try and see the

other person’s view and try to weigh up every situation and resolve every dispute. Libra is the diplomat and peacekeeper of the Zodiac. Ruled by the planet Venus, which brings

the love of beauty, the arts and creature comforts as with Taurus. As this is an air sign, the influence of Venus is more refined. Their desire to create balance at all times can lead to indecisiveness or putting other people’s needs first, to their own detriment. The signature oil for Libra is Geranium – the oil of balance. I have chosen Rose Geranium which also has a link to Venus. The other oil I’ve chosen is Ylang Ylang with its links to love, the planet Venus and will appeal to the Libran taste for luxury.

SCORPIO

Planets: Mars/Pluto Element: Water

Scorpio often gets a bad press! Maybe because people associate this sign with the ‘sting in the tail’, but more likely because this is the deepest, most secretive sign in the Zodiac.

Scorpions have very strong emotions, but find it difficult to express them, and to other people they may arise suspicion to whom they merely appear moody. They don’t make friends easily and prefer to have a small circle of close and trusted friends. The same applies to relationships/intimate partners: Scorpios will live alone rather than enter into a relationship that doesn’t fulfill their need for deep commitment and trust. When they do make a decision they are passionate and faithful. They are often very serious people, quietly determined but with reserves of energy. The signature oil for Scorpio is Patchouli due to its depth as one of the ‘deepest’ base-notes in Aromatherapy. It is also linked with its aphrodisiac properties

and the planet Pluto. The other oil linked with Mars are Ginger and Pine as they can renew depleted energy.

SAGITTARIUS

23rd November – 21st December – The Archer – 5ml Blend – £7.00

Planet: Jupiter Element: Fire

Sagittarians are inquisitive and enthusiastic and want to clarify and comprehend. They also want to pass on what they have learned and many Sagittarians become teachers.

Truth is something Sagittarians care about deeply and this is their motivation for such work as writing, speaking or teaching. They are the great explorers of new avenues and new philosophies and this is because they want to experience everything. They are usually sociable, genuinely interested in other people, open, spontaneous and optimistic.

They are great talkers but have the ability to listen as well, they love conversation. They also have a well-developed sense of humour and fun and love joking around.

They are strongly associated with travel, running around, working hard and forward motion, they find it hard to sit still! Black Pepper is their signature oil which reflects the ardent nature of Sagittarius which is a tonic, stimulant, fiery and has a directness, single-mindedness and love of truth. The other oil linked to Jupiter is Marjoram which is warming and cheering.

CAPRICORN

Planet: Saturn Element: Earth

The sign of the goat strives to get to the top of the mountain, and while some Capricorns may be very ambitious and career minded, others may transcend worldly ambition and become poets, philosophers and spiritual teachers. Capricorn has a special affinity with the planet Saturn which represents time, responsibilites, boundaries, authority etc and Saturn people tend to value tradition, and like order in all areas of their life. Capricorn people often show immense courage in defending others, if they perceive a threat to their family, friends, social group or an ideal they believe in. Paradoxically, most Capricorns have a great sense of humour. A manifestation of Saturn with Capricorns is taking on too much and

leaving themselves depleted. They need to feel useful and sometimes leave themselves open to being exploited by their kindness. Their signature oil is Vetivert with it’s earthy aroma and is known as the ‘Oil of Tranquility’. The other oils linked to Saturn are are Eucalyptus and Juniper which are both cleansing and antiseptic.

AQUARIUS

21st January – 19th February – The Water Carrier – 5ml Blend – £7.00

Planet: Uranus Element: Air

Aquarians are attracted to new ideas, new technologies, anything unusual or unorthodox and are often ahead of their times. They tend to dislike routine and are happier working in an unconventional setting that offers plenty of variety. They are social reformers though their revolutionary ideas tend to stay that way – as ideas. They have a certain reputation for coldness and aloofness, which may be because they are reluctant to confide their thoughts or feelings to anybody but their closest friends, who are probably few in number.

Friendships tend to be sociable and often based on shared interests. They are very independent, setting great store by their privacy and are happy to live alone. Those who are not are usually easy-going and often have a quirky sense of humour. The signature oil of Aquarius is Neroli, which is extremely expensive, I have used Petitgrain, which is a slightly deeper aroma, but still comes from the Orange fruit and has similar properties. The other oil linked to Aquarius is Pine and the oil linked with Uranus is Lavender.

PISCES

20th February – 20th March – The Fishes – 5ml Blend – £7.00

Planet: Neptune Element: Water

Piscean people reflect their water element in their fluid natures. Elusive, deeply emotional, sometimes moody, highly intuitive, empathetic and compassionate, they feel other people’s sufferings as their own. They may have trouble establishing boundaries and some have a tendency to live thier lives through other people. Pisceans are notoriously difficult to ‘pin down’ and they can find it difficult to arrive at decisions. Their ruling planet Neptune can deeply inspire great idealism, spiritual aspirations or artistic inspiration, the downside is that they can be self-deluding. Melissa is the Pisces signature oil but this again is vastly expensive. It is suggested that Bergamot and Frankincense match the etherial nature of Pisces and Clary Sage has been chosen as the representative for the planet Neptune.
